What not to wear?

There are really bad fashion mistakes that people make all the time. A common one that I have seen is leggings with a shirt that doesnt cover your crotch or butt. People think that leggings are pants and they are not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If i were stacey i would tell them to get longer shirts.

This is the seventh blog and i am sooooooo excited! I am going to talk about what fashion is and how i can predict when fashion is coming. For example, jeans are always in and they are always in style. People wear them daily and have always been a style icon. For this season, high low skirts have been in style. Some people like them and some people hate them so it depends on what kind of style you have. I think that they will look good on short people because they have shorter legs and its shorter in the front so it will illongate your legs and make your torsoe look longer. I have seen the high low design in prom dresses and i think it looks good.  Another example is crop tops. I think that they will be in during the summer but sometimes they can look not good because people dont wear shirts underneath them. Those are basically all my examples and i think that some look good and some don't.

How can you make a difference?

If i were to start a non profit organization it would be so that kids can create and design fashion pieces and their own work but for no cost. I would provide everything to materials, sewing machines,  and it would be in a safe environment. There are a lot of kids that dont get the chance to design clothing and use their self expression because they dont have the money or they dont have any way to get there. This would be an after school acvtivity so more kids can join. This would be using fashion to raise awareness because kids would want to do this but it wouldnt cost anything. My mission statement for this organization would be that you don't need to have money to have a good time. My target audience would be younger children and little kids. But really anyone can do this because its mainly for all age groups of kids. To publicise my organization, i would put up posters around the school and make some announcements. I think i could make it work because it would be for the kids and i wouldnt just be doing it for myself.

My name is Nicole Mullen. I am a fashion stylist and i work with celebrities and other people as well. I have a lot of experience with styling other people. The first appointment we will go into the city and shop together and pick out your style and what you like to wear. I need to know what you like to wear on the everyday basis and also for fancy parties and your type of color pallette. If you are not able to go out to the city, then we can talk over the phone and plan out what you like. Also, another option would be to meet at my offices and you can bring pictures to show me your personal style. Sometimes I like to get you out of your comfort zone and into other colors that you don't normally wear. I have different packages that I offer that are all different prices. I have a party package that is 600 dollars. There is a Red carpet package that is 900 dollars. Then there is the normal one that is 500 dollars. I am in very high demand, so if you want my sevices you must tell me right away and if i don't answer then you can reach my assistant.

For Miss Harris, I would choose very simple comfortable clothing because she is a nanny and a teacher. I would choose a very simple color pallette and also reccommend the normal package for her. I think that alot fo things go good with pearls but i also think that she should try other pieces of jewerly too. When she has dark hair i would choose a soft light color pallete and then for light hair she should wear darker colors.

Controversial Fashion Ads

The ads was controversial because they try to sell things with sex appeal and sex. Some of the ads tried to sell with the models being sexual and trying to catch the buyers eye. I think that sometimes this is okay if its not too sexual but, if its like a department store where alot of different ages shop, i think that would be too innapropriate. No, i dont agree with the controversy because i think they should keep it clean. Especially if other younger ages are going to see it, that could be a bad influence. I think the designer could of got regular designers and just done simple, fresh, clean clothes and not too much skin showing. To be fashion foward, i think people need to think outside the box and have different and unique ideas. If everyone came up with the same idea, then there would be no personality or originality. To get the word out about my clothes, i would do billboards and commercial ads and everything.

Fashion Critique

The fashion show I am critiquing is Michael Kors fashion show.  This is the spring summer 2012 fashion show. There is a lot if leather belts and bags. Everything is very flowy and light. It looks like the models had just come out of the jungle. There is some animal print and mostly earthy tones. I see a lot of leather sandals and boots. Leather is a big deal in this fashion show, especially pairing it together. The show starts off with the leather being very light to very dark almost black. I would describe the whole theme of this fashion show as “jungle” or very relaxed and carefree. The models have their hair back in either braids of some sort or ponytails. There are some outfits that look almost like robes. There was one jacket that was all snakeskin. A lot of the shirts have a very low v-cut for the neckline. There are some bright accents to the outfits and then there are very light camel colored outfits. I don’t think that I would wear any of these outfits. They are very wilderness to me and don’t look very attractive. Maybe there are certain pieces I would wear by themselves with simpler things but not all together. I would definitely not wear any of the shoes; they were very chunky and seemed more like shoes that Jesus would wear. I think that overall it was a 5 out of 10. I didn’t love the fashion show but I didn’t hate it and I think he could of done better on the pieces of clothing.

Gender Roles in Fashion

Fashioning the body is considered more important for women than for men. The reason for this is because most women are into what they look like and how they dress. For example, women like getting ready for extravagant parties more than men do. They like wearing fancy gowns and dresses and they like to look nice. I think there is more emphasis on women’s clothing because women are more into fashion. There is more designs and color on women’s clothing. Men usually wear simple plain colors like grey, black, and white. Not all if not most men, are not into fashion as much as women are. Michael Kors mainly focuses on women’s attire and accessories. He does a lot of purses, wallets, sunglasses, clothes, and bathing suits. He also does men attire but he mainly focuses on women. Ralph Lauren is someone who does mostly men’s clothing. There are a lot of sweater vests, sweaters, polos, etc. there are a lot of women’s clothing too, but I think most of the women’s clothing was inspired from the men’s line. I think designing for men is easier and simpler because they don’t wear extravagant things. But, I think designing for women is more fun. Most women wear a lot of different things because they all have different styles. If I were a designer, I would want to design for women because I feel like It would be more fun and I would learn more techniques.  

Beauty

Beauty is qualities that are pleasing to someone. My personal style changes year round. During the winter, I wear jeans or sweatpants, sweatshirts and, sweaters, and boots and moccasins. During the summer, I wear shorts and t-shirts and tank tops, and for shoes I mostly wear sandals and flip flops. I don’t think my style really defines who I am. I think what makes me unique is my personality. Beauty is majorly broadcasted on the media. I think the media thinks you have to be a certain size and a certain height to be pretty. No, I don’t think the media is correct because everyone is beautiful in their own way. Socio economic status has a lot to do with this. Beauty can be clothes and how much money you have too. Depending on how much money you have, some people may have things that other people don’t. Culture effects beauty because different cultures have different traditions and rules. Some places make you wear certain things. Beauty has changed a lot over the 21^st century. There has been many fads and different styles of clothing, textures and colors. The current fashion trends are boots like riding boots and combat boots. For clothes, I don’t really know because I usually don’t keep up on clothing. I wouldn’t change anything because I have been liking the fashion trends.
